Transferring AccountLinx & SyncLinx to a New Computer

When installing/transferring AccountLinx/SyncLinx to another PC at your company, there are a few things that you can do to ensure that everything is working as expected.

As AccountLinx/SyncLinx are designed to connect to your ExakTime Connect database (hosted on Microsoft Azure), there is generally nothing else that needs to be installed by us aside from AccountLinx/SyncLinx. The only part of these instructions we cannot account for is anything reliant on your accounting/payroll system.

AccountLinx/SyncLinx Setup Credentials

If you have previously received your AccountLinx/SyncLinx credentials from us, double-check your email inbox as they are still usable. You can search for terms such as Server, Database, Credentials, AccountLinx, etc. Your email should contain text like below:

Server: <server URL>
SQL Authentication should be selected
User ID: <User>
Password: <Password>
Database: <Database Name>

If you do not have your AccountLinx/SyncLinx credentials, you can contact us for them to be emailed. For assistance with this, you can request the credentials with the "Request Support" link at the top of the page.

Doublecheck your AccountLinx and SyncLinx Options

Some settings and options for AccountLinx and SyncLinx are local to your PC and may not carry over to the new installation. Either before or after installing AccountLinx/SyncLinx on your new PC, double-check the following.



Double-check the exporter selected for AccountLinx. This can be done by checking the exporter in the title of AccountLinx. In our example, Foundation is listed.


Exporter Settings

Many of the exporter settings are stored in your ExakTime Connect database, so after selecting the Exporter, the Exporter Settings should carry over. However, it never hurts to double-check your settings. A couple of minutes of double-checking can save a day of headaches.

  • Go to Tools and click Exporter Settings. Click Configure in the Exporter Settings window.



  • Make a note of the options listed here. Some things to note are payroll settings, credentials for connecting AccountLinx to your payroll system, etc.


Exporter Options

AccountLinx options are stored locally to the computer and may require you to re-enable/disable these options.

  • Go to Tools and click Options.


  • Go through the tabs and make a note of what is enabled/disabled. If you are unsure of what tabs to focus on, we have listed some common tabs to review in the following step(s).


  • Some commonly used tabs you should double-check can be found in the Time & Attendance, and Integration tab.
    • Time & Attendance Tab
      • A common setting enabled here is "Group employees by category on the time card screen".


    • Integration Tab
      • A common setting found here is the Employee/Location/Cost Code ID integration.




Double-check the importer selected for SyncLinx. This can be done by checking the importer in the title of SyncLinx at the top-left. In our example, ComputerEase is listed.


Importer Settings

Many of the importer settings are stored on the local computer, so after selecting the importer, it is best to re-enable the importer settings to match your previous installation. 

  • Go to Tools and click <Importer Name> Settings.


  • Review your imported settings and make note of what is enabled/disabled.


Importer Options

SyncLinx options are stored locally to the computer and may require you to re-enable/disable these options.

  • Go to Tools and click Options.


  • As the options can depend on your selected importer, it is best to go through the tabs and make a note of what is enabled/disabled.


  • A commonly used tab you should double-check is the Update tab. The Update tab controls what information should be updated when updating information for previously imported entities. The options available will be dependent on the Importer.


Advanced Alternative for SyncLinx

As many of the settings for SyncLinx are stored locally, you can also copy/paste the SyncLinx settings file from one computer to another.

The SyncLinx Settings file can be found in:

  • Click the C Drive, typically named Local Disk, from My Computer.


  • Navigate to ProgramData, click ExakTime, then click SyncLinx. If a folder is not present, you may need to set your computer to show hidden files/folders. 


  • From the SyncLinx folder, copy the SyncLinx Settings.xml file from the source computer to the new computer in the same location.
