Field Value Setup - Relationships

The Relationship values defined within this section will determine the values available in the Relationship field of the Dependent and/or Beneficiary forms within the system.

Relationships can be defined as "Dependent Relationships" and/or "Beneficiary Relationships". A "Dependent Relationship" will appear in the Relationship dropdown box when an employee adds or updates a Dependent within the system. A "Beneficiary Relationship" will appear in the Relationship dropdown box when an employee adds or updates a Beneficiary within the system.

In general, "Dependent Relationships" are also valid "Beneficiary Relationships". For example, the Relationship "Spouse" is generally a "Dependent Relationship" and a "Beneficiary Relationship" since employees can have a Spouse as a Dependent and a Beneficiary. However, the converse is not always true. For example, the Relationship "Father" may be a valid "Beneficiary Relationship" but is generally not a valid "Dependent Relationship".

To add a Relationship, enter the name of the Relationship, select the most appropriate Category for the Relationship being added, check the type(s) of Relationships that the value entered represents, and click Save. If you are going to be uploading Dependents in the "Data Imports" step, then you must define the Relationships for those dependents in this section.

If a relationship value needs to be deleted, the # Assigned column must be '0', meaning there can be no dependents in that relationship value in your system.
